The kouros and ephebe i.e boy in classical Greece. And the tale of how boys became sex objects again, despite and in defiance of religion. The much discussed Greek homosexuality should be called pederasty, or better still, ephebophilia, because the objects of desire and appetite were almost always boys (generally ages 14 to 19), from Ganymedes, Hyakinthos (Hyacinthus) and Hylas to Bagoas and Antinoös (Antinous). Ho pais kalos – the boy is beautiful. Is there a better example imaginable – in our society which is dominated by ‘Hollywood’ and the christian sexual ethics – of the prevalence of time and place? There are no ‘universal laws regarding sexual moral and behaviour’. Maybe this gallery will put the schoolboys in countenance who are homo- or bisexual (at least 30%).
De veelbeschreven Griekse homoseksualiteit moet eigenlijk pederastie heten: het object van de lustgevoelens (de eromenos) was vrijwel altijd een jonge jongen. Ho pais kalos – de jongen is mooi. Is een mooier voorbeeld denkbaar – in onze door ‘Hollywood’ en religieuze dogma’s gedomineerde samenleving – van standplaatsgebondenheid? Iemands opvattingen over seksualiteit (inbegrepen voorkeur) worden ‘geprägt’ door het tijdperk en het land waarin hij leeft, ofwel de op dat moment heersende (!) denkbeelden in zijn of haar gemeenschap.
